3 Reasons For Optimism For Steeler Fans

There is truly nothing like a die-hard Steelers fan. You want someone who is loyal? Someone who will stop at NOTHING to see something they love succeed? Someone who will defend that same thing they love to the grave? Let me introduce you to Yinz. They are the people you want by your side when a fight breaks loose, when things go wrong, or if your solo cup is empty.

With that being said, I have seen one too many worried fans on social media. The overreaction needs to be put on pause. Breath in….and out. Not to worry, I have taken it upon myself to step up and be the angel on their right shoulder telling them that everything is going to be okay.

Week 1 was never going to be perfect, but it was set up to be. A 3-0 preseason that was filled with optimism surrounding a highly paid defense, a dynamic duo in Kenny Pickett and George Pickens, and a change in scheme from Matt Canada. Instead of seeing all that come to light, Steelers’ fans were left in shock as the highest paid defense in the NFL got tossed around for a 30 burger on their head, Kenny Pickett, to put it nicely, did not look good, George Pickens had a great catch…where he was out of bounds, and Matt Canada was Matt Canada.

Was it poor preparation? Lack of execution? Or are the Steelers just not that good? Twitter would say that Mike Tomlin will have his first losing season ever. Give me a freaking break.

Here's 3 reasons for optimism for Steelers’ Fans (From a Commanders fan)

1. TJ WattHe is the best defensive player in the NFL and I would hear your argument against it, but you would be wrong and I don’t like wasting time.

As a unit, you can't rely on one player to determine your success, but TJ Watt is more than just a great player. He is a leader, and the captain of that defense. They had a poor performance as a unit on Sunday (except for TJ), but just by him being healthy and doing his thing on and off the field, he will be able to motivate this defense to play to their potential.

2. Mike TomlinBeen the coach since 2007, HASN’T HAD A LOSING SEASON ONCE. My respect for Tomlin comes from the fact I know everyone on his team wants to be there and play for HIM specifically. There isn’t a single player or coach in that locker room that Mike Tomlin wouldn’t take one on the chin from Mike Tyson for and his players would do the same for him. Steelers fans get upset or roll their eyes when outsiders bring up this stat because “Pittsburgh is held to a higher standard than most teams.” Very True. But you better be careful what you wish for.

3. Kenny Has It. This is a no brainer, and I am just here to remind everyone that he didn’t lose it in Week 1 vs. the 49ers. He just had a poor game and Matt Canada’s mush that he has in place of his brain didn’t help. Mr. Pickett will turn it around for this offense and the good news is he has a freak show with Elmer’s glue on his gloves in George Pickens to help him do that.

The only reason for serious concern is OC Matt Canada. He is really the only person that can get in the way of the Steelers’ success this year.

I truly believe they will turn it around very soon. Although preseason means next to nothing, you can’t deny the electricity we saw in those three games.

Stay strong Steeler Nation and I will see you at the Terrible Tailgate in December when the 9-5 Steelers take on the 9-5 Bengals.
