Countdown to Kickoff Day 14: #37 Louisville Cardinals

I am writing this blog with Friday vibes, and Friday vibes only. So, it will be a quick one but sometimes those are the best ones…so lets get it.

There is a ton of buzz surrounding this season for Louisville and rightfully so. They finished the year 8-5 last year, they keep six of their starters on a defense that was dominant last year in the ACC, they welcome a new and very talented head coach in Jeff Brohm who played QB at Louisville in his college days, AND they have one of the easier schedules in the ACC.

The only question marks are can Jake Plummer replace Malik Cunningham and who is going to replace the five starters on defense.

This is a serious dark horse team to make a trip to the ACC Championship game in December and don't you forget that.

Who replaces Cunningham? Transferring in from California is Jack Plummer. His job? Only to replace a dual threat PROBLEM in Malik Cunningham who, in his last two years as a Cardinal, threw for over 4,000 yards and ran for over 1,500 yards. As a Golden Bear, Plummer had a very solid year last year and was a huge part of their offense accounting for 22 touchdowns and over 3,000 yards through the air. The good news for Plummer is that Jawhar Jordan and Maurice Turner will take a lot of pressure off of him as both of these studs in the backfield return this season. This offense will be a problem for opponents.

Defense: Holding opponents to under 20 pints a game like they did last year will be hard to do, but I don't foresee much regression for this squad. Yes they lose five starters, but the six that are returning are older, faster, and wiser this year AND Brohm will have a major impact in developing the newbies.

How May Games Will Louisville Win In 2023?

  • 8 or more

  • 7 or less

I should probably have this team higher, but I do believe that this team finishes 3rd or 4th in the ACC this year which is not good enough for a top 25 ranking. 8-4.
