Hope for the Hokies?

My first blog featured the Blue Devils, and my second blog features the Virginia Tech Hokies. Wouldn't have it any other way. Tech fans- this isn't what you think it might be. This blog will give you hope and is a formula on how the Hokies can make the NCAA tournament come Selection Sunday.

Now, it doesn't take a genius to realize this team has work to do. But, this team is clearly different with a healthy Hunter Cattoor, going 11-1 before he got hurt and have two key resume building wins over Duke :) and UVA :( at home since he returned. So....if i were a Tech fan I would spend my days wondering how this team can have its name revealed on that bracket. Here's the 3 things that Tech fans need to see for that to happen:

1) Go 10-10 in ACC play at a MINIMUM:

Currently sitting at 4-9 with a game this afternoon (2/11) against Notre Dame, Tech needs to go 6-1 in their next 7 games to get to 10-10. Possible? Yes. Probable? I was never really good at math.

  1. @ ND (2-11)

  2. @ GT (2-12)

  3. vs Pitt (10-3)

  4. vs Miami (10-4)

  5. @ Duke (8-5)

  6. @ Louisville (the worst team on planet earth)

  7. vs FSU (6-7)

I see four games where, barring any choking, Tech should win and if they "steal" two games against Pitt, Miami, or Duke they hit the 10-10 mark. 10-10 puts them on the bubble without a doubt.

2) Win 2+ games in the ACC Tournament:

Now, the committee will not be able to ignore the two losses to Boston College for Tech, but the only way to make that stain fade is to win games against quad-1 teams. The ACC tournament is the perfect place to do so. 10-10 will get Tech a top 8 seed in the ACC tournament this year which would mean a first round bye. Winning one game puts them in the quarterfinals and gives them a chance to play one of the top four seeds. Those top seeds are looking to be Clemson, UVA, Pittsburgh, and Miami. All four of those teams are quad-1 teams and if Tech can pull together a win it would be a great addition to their resume.

3) Root for UVA :)

Well, you don't have to root for them, but just don't be upset if they keep winning. UVA is by far and away the Hokies best win and if the Hoos keep winning, that will only be a good thing for VA Tech. I know it makes you want to barf but I promise it's not all bad.

If these 3 things happen I like Mike Young and his team's chances to play with the big boys in March for the third straight year.
